1 John 4:19
19 We love, because He first loved us.
As I have been working on the blog “Biblical Perspectives On Narcissism”, God has taken me on an inward journey that has given me the tiniest glimpse that ultimately everything is about love. I am compelled to dig into this deeper, and decided it would be best to do it in the form of a second blog. The two blogs will occasionally cross-reference each other, but I can most fully explore both subjects by addressing them separately.
Saying that everything is ultimately about love may seem to be an over-the-top statement, but I hope to show in the upcoming discussion that it is not too far-fetched.
Love is a chief attribute and the essence of God…..
1 John 4:8
8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus boiled down the entire fulfillment of the law into the simplest terms of loving both God and man……..
34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
……and Paul made love the goal his instruction
1 Timothy 1:5
5 But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
I invite you to walk with me as I walk down the road of learning to fully experience God’s love, and through that to most fully experience life here and hereafter by learning to more fully love God and others.
